DIY Balancing Facial Toner with Essential Oils
Are you using a toner as part of your daily skincare regime? Toners remove impurities, hydrate your skin and tighten pores. It’s even better if you make your own!
Here’s a simple recipe that can be adapted depending on your skin type.
Ingredients
Your base (makes 6 ounces/180ml):
- ½ cup of rose water or hibiscus water(*see note below)– anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, good for sensitive skin
- ¼ cup of alcohol-free witch hazel — anti-inflammatory and astringent
- 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar — (optional) antibacterial, pH balancing and anti-acne
*Note: In Mexico, dried hibiscus flowers (“flor de jamaica,” in Spanish) are affordable. If you find them in a Latin-American market, boil 1 cup of flowers in 2 cups of water for 10 minutes and drain it. This infusion is a great base for a toner due to its anti-aging and detoxifying properties.
Essential oils:
- 4 drops of lavender essential oil — antioxidant and anti-inflmmatory, helpful for hyperpigmentation and acne
- 4 drops of frankincense essential oil — astrigent, promotes skin elasticity
